Disability & illness

Having a disability or long-term illness can cause significant challenges to everyday life. Whether it is something you were born with or something that happened later in life, we're here to support you.

Contact us to find out how we can help.

We offer advice and support and our fund for adults and children with long-term health conditions and disabilities can help to make life a little easier.

We can help pay for:

  • Respite care
  • Transport, travel costs and getting around
  • Independent living
  • Communication equipment and IT
  • Home care and long term care
  • Home adaptations including help towards Disabled Facilities Grant contributions
  • Support for carers
  • Counselling grants

If you feel you need some support, or you would just like to speak to someone, please get in touch. We will talk through your situation with you and together we can work out how we can help.  We can also signpost you to other more specialised support if you feel you need it.

Essential services: getting extra help leaflet

UKRN, the UK Regulators' Network, have created a really useful guide covering essential services such as phone, post, water, gas, electricity and travel and how the different providers can support you if you need some extra help and what you can expect from them. View the leaflet here.

 Supporting STEM students with dyslexia

The Institute of Physics has published a good practise guide for academic staff on supporting STEM students with dyslexia. The guide provides: knowledge and understanding of the impact of dyslexia within the STEM environment, the particular adjustments that STEM students with dyslexia may require and information on how to ensure that your STEM teaching and learning practices become more inclusive over time.
