There are certain questions that we get asked a lot, we have tried in these FAQs to answer the most common. If you can't find the answer to your question here phone or email us and we will try and answer it for you.

What is IET Connect?

IET Connect is the IET’s Benevolent Fund. It exists to support members and former members, and their immediate families, through difficult times.  It can help with a wide range of issues including legal advice, unemployment and redundancy support, illness, disability and caring responsibilities.  If these impact on daily life we can help or try to identify someone who can.

Who can they help?

We can help anyone who is, or was a member of the IET (or IEE), and their immediate family.

What do you mean by “immediate family”?      

Immediate family can be a partner or dependent child or another family member such as a parent for whom the member has caring responsibilities.

How long does someone need to have been a member of the IET?

One day.

Do they need to have donated to IET Connect?

No. We will not look to see if they have donated to us or not.

Can you help people outside of the UK?

Yes. We support members around the world. Not all of our services are available in every country but we will try our best to help you wherever you are.

What kind of help do you offer?

The kind of help we can offer depends on individual circumstances. Typically we provide legal advice, financial help towards a wide range of purposes such as equipment, care, emergencies and essentials, as well as outplacement for people needing employment support (usually due to redundancy).

Can IET Connect help with items or services I have already purchased?

No. IET Connect is not able to assist with retrospective costs. Please contact us before making a commitment to a purchase if you would like us to consider assisting.  

When can people contact you?

The IET Connect Helpline is open 9.00am – 5.00pm (UK time) weekdays. Outside of these hours there is an answerphone and messages will be responded to the next working day.

Does the IET know who you are helping?

No.  All information about who we speak to and help is kept totally confidential. We are a separate charitable organisation and do not share the details of anyone.

I work for the IET, can you help me?

Yes, if you are a member of the IET.

I am interested in volunteering with IET Connect, what can I do and who should I contact?

IET Connect has helped me in the past and I want to give something back, what can I do?

You could share your story with others, you could make a small donation, or you could help spread the word about IET Connect and encourage other members to contact us if they need support or want to donate. Email contactus@ietconnect.org for more information.

Can I rent your meeting room or hot desks?

Our rooms can only be booked by IET staff and are subject to availability. If you work for the IET, information on booking the meeting room and hot desks can be found on the intranet. For more information email contactus@ietconnect.org.
