Volunteering

IET Connect is committed to helping all IET members and their families. We offer valuable services when life isn’t running smoothly; a free legal helpline, employment and career support, free, independent debt advice, advice and support with care costs, disability as well as financial help in difficult times.

Would you like to play a part and have the chance to help other engineers? If so, we are recruiting volunteers for a Trustee position and Local Representatives in various regions.

“The provision of this kind of support is in the best traditions of professional bodies and I am most grateful to IET Connect for making it available.”

Local Representatives

IET Connect’s Local Reps are its local link to IET members. Each Local Rep covers a specific geographic region and currently there are vacancies in the following areas:

Berkshire, Dorset, Durham, Humber, London, Mersey and West Cheshire, Northumbria, Scotland South East, Shropshire, Solent, Wales South East, Yorkshire South,

There are two aspects to a Local Rep’s role. The first is to work with IET Caseworkers to support IET members and their families. Where on-going support is being provided, a Local Rep will, together with a Caseworker, make a first visit and then visits once a year. How much time this part of the role takes is entirely dependent on the number of people being helped in your area. There would normally be no more than three at any one time that require an annual visit and other ad hoc support.

The second part of the role is to help promote IET Connect in your area so that we are able to raise our profile. This part is very much in the hands of the Local Rep and how much time they wish to devote to it. Promotional activities could include attending or speaking at events run by the IET Local Network, organising fundraising activities such as dinners, golf days, quizzes, challenges or promoting us to local engineering businesses. IET Connect will provide you with any support you may need and can help with materials, artwork etc.

Application forms for the Local Rep role can be downloaded below or on our My Communities page.

“I cannot adequately express what a tremendous relief it is to hear that the IET Connect have decided to make such a generous award to my parents. This really will take the pressure off, so far as keeping my parents in their own home supported by the very good Crossroads carers is concerned. But it is not just about the money; I have found the support that I have received since my initial contact with Cathie (Caseworker) and my subsequent meeting with my Local Representative incredibly heartwarming and encouraging.”
